PLANNING: MOOD BOARD
As you can see from my mood board, my music video is going to be based largely within outside environments. The use of such environment should help create a sense of space and freedom from watching our video, this is what we hope to achieve through all of our band performance being set within a field setting.
Our video will also emphasise friendship and fun through a party scene and friends socialising together. This is shown through the image of a music festival and colourful vibrant picture which connotes a lighting scene similar to a disco dancefloor. This vibrancy is suplimented through the picture of a bussling city street. Our video will include alot of activity. The video itself is going to have a relaxed mood and tone which is demonstrated through the sunset.
PLANNING: One republic - Goodlife LYRICS
Woke up in London yesterday Start with a close up shot of the lead singer & zoom out Found myself in the city near Piccadilly to the whole band - band performance
Don't really know how I got here
I got some pictures on my phone
New names and numbers that I don't know Two people sitting together looking at their phone
Address to places like Abbey Road - zooms into the phone- party scene -> drunk guy falls on the floor outside and the camera zooms up to the sky ..
Day turns to night, night turns to whatever we want Time lapse
We're young enough to say camera then zooms onto phone on floor, zooms into band performance
Oh this has gotta be the good life
This has gotta be the good life band performance
This could really be a good life, good life
Say oh, got this feeling that you can't fight
Like this city is on fire tonight
This could really be a good life band performance
A good, good life
To my friends in New York, I say hello zooms out to an advertising board in Waterloo station
My friends in L.A. they don't know - a group of friends walking passed the advert and the camera
Where I've been for the past few years or so follows them - get on the train
Paris to China to Col-or-ado
Sometimes there's airplanes I can't jump out
Sometimes there's bullshit that don't work now band performance
We are god of stories but please tell me-e-e-e
What there is to complain about
When you're happy like a fool
Let it take you over
When everything is out Stop motion of people jumping
You gotta take it in
Oh this has gotta be the good life
This has gotta be the good life band performance
This could really be a good life, good life
Say oh, got this feeling that you can't fight
Like this city is on fire tonight band performance
This could really be a good life
A good, good life
Hopelessly
I feel like there might be something that I'll miss
Hopelessly
I feel like the window closes oh so quick ?
Hopelessly
I'm taking a mental picture of you now
'Cuz hopelessly
The hope is we have so much to feel good about
Oh this has gotta be the good life
This has gotta be the good life
This could really be a good life, good life band performance
Say oh, got this feeling that you can't fight
Like this city is on fire tonight band performance
This could really be a good life
A good, good life
Oh yeah
Good, good life band performance
Good life
Ooh
Listen
My friends in New York, I say hello
My friends in L.A. they don't know Friends from second scene sitting under tree still, lead singer walks in and sits with them and looks at phone, camera zooms in on phone.....
Where I've been for the past few years or so
Paris to China to Col-or-ado
Sometimes there's airplanes I can't jump out
Sometimes there's bullshit that don't work now train phone shows lead singer walking along a train platform (camera positioned on opposite platform), singer walks down platform and train zooms past and camera blacks out.
We are god of stories but please tell me-e-e-e

PLANNING/RESEARCH: INTERESTING MUSIC VIDEOS

PLANNING: AUDIENCE PROFILE FOR 'ONE REPUBLIC'
My Group mate and I created a mood board to show our expected target audience:
My group mate and I completed a mood board during the lesson, to show our consumer profile.
We are expecting our audience to be students or students aged 17-25, both male and female.
They might enjoy going to restaurants like Nandos, Pizza Express or Domino's. The latest gadgets they might be likely to use are Blackberrys and Apple's iPohnes. Since we would be posting our video on Youtube, they are also likely to be a frequent user of Youtube who also enjoy going on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.
My target audience is likely to watch television music channels such as MTV and keep up to date with the latest music chart and single standings. They will find this information from either iTunes, internet, music TV channels and even magazines.
They are likely to attend gigs of this alternative rock genre and enjoy going to festivals such as Glastonbury and Reading.

PLANNING: STORYBOARD ANIMATIC
I have created this animatic to act as my storyboard. This will be very helpful when planning locations and casts when I film. I created this after annotating my chosen song's lyrics. I then sketched these scenes and took photos and edited them on iMovie. Although my scenes may become altered when actually filming, this helps to visualise my ideas and basic sequence of my music video.

RESEARCH: MORAL PANICS
According to The Guardian on 1st September, 2012:
BBFC reviews policy on music and factual videos :
- The Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) will this week close a three-month consultation that most observers believe will end a loophole which means DVDs with titles like 'The Bitch of Buchenwald' and 'Britain's Bloodiest Serial Killers' can claim exemption from being given age guidance by the British Board of Film Classification.
- As things stand, most sport, documentary and music videos can claim an exemption from classification. "The great majority of exempt video works are fine," said the BBFC's head of policy, David Austin. "They are not going to harm anyone, but there are a significant number of titles that are potentially harmful to children".
- Austin showed the Guardian examples of videos that have claimed exemption but would have been classified. They range in seriousness. One of the more shocking is a documentary about the American heavy metal band Slipknot "which, actually my son bought when he was 10 and I confiscated", said Austin. "He's waiting till he's older to get it back."
- A music video by the Norwegian black metal band Gorgoroth, which was rated X in Germany but is unrated in the UK, shows topless women being crucified with blood running down their breasts.
- Austin said: "Given concerns about knife crime in this country, that really is how to kill someone. If that came in for classification, we would not classify it – we would cut that."

Other potentially problematic DVDs include wildly violent cage fighting DVDs and ones that instruct in krav maga, the combat techniques developed by the Israeli army.
- A performance by Rihanna on The X Factor in December 2011 attracted 4,500 complaints to Ofcom.
- I Like the Way She Do It (sexually explicit language)
- If I Can't (strong language)
- PIMP 50 Cent (offensive images of women)
- What's My Name Rihanna (body thrusting, striptease)
- Express Christina Aguilera (burlesque)
Moral panics are not only expressed through the increasing amount of explicit material shown in music videos but also the lyrics themselves that often express sexual references and unpleasent language such as swear words. Video games have also became more violent with young children being able to play games such as 'Grand theft auto' where the game focuses on a gangstar. This game often has violence, bad language and often encourages the player to carry out violent acts.

RESEARCH: STARDOM
Stardom has remained as a key factor to the success of commercial production, distribution and exhibition of films and music. It has also played a special role in the medium’s interaction with other parts of the media, so that stars have played a significant part in the coverage and marketing of the music generally.
They remain the industry’s primary marketing tool and are frequently a main reason for the audience’s attendance (In cinema) and sale (music records and concerts).

http://www.magneticmag.com/2012/07/do-you-have-aspirations-stardom-define-your-style-your-image-is-arguably-as-important-as-the-music-itself/:
'Any great pop star has a team of people—from graphic designers to stylists to publicists to the very producers that make their music—all working to keep the public’s view of their star consistent'.
That consistency is so vastly important that when it comes to getting famous, it’s arguably as important as the music itself. When people hear your name, it needs to evoke a single, deeply recognizable and unique feeling. That is your image, and it reminds your audience what they are missing by not listening to your music or seeing you live. It is abstract, and has equally important audio and visual components that cooperate to push one message, one theme.'
Deadmau5 is an artist first and foremost, and he doesn’t care what anyone thinks about his art or what they desire for him to do. Porter Robinson is an intellectual boy who respects the music scene and aspires to advance it. Deadmau5 desires to have a star image that stands out and rather than being an icon of manners and fashion, he tries to be individual and as a result he gains more interest and consumers are more likely to remember/recognise him. (Any publicity is good publicity).
This is similar to advertising strategies like Working Titles film 'shifty'. They tried to gain interest and attention throught a fake email to consumers claiming that their friend had been arrested during a drug deal and that their name has been mentioned. This caused much outrage and many complaints. This was bad publicity but gained attention and therefore became good publicity.

The 'meta-narrative star image' of a musician or group of musicians is very often heavily represented through music video. The star image is sold to viewers, who watch the stars performing or larking around in videos. The stars can choose what sort of image they wish to sell through the narrative of a music video and portray themselves.
The aim of a music video is to promote an album; for this reason, almost all music videos contain the image of the star(s), the singer or band, to help promote the album. Because of this music videos often feature a wide variety of shots (especially close ups) on their singers, and give them a large percentage of the screen time within a music video.
